Adopting a Friend
Selecting a Pet
KHS wants to help you and your new best friend remain "lifelong friends." KHS helps adopters select a canine or feline that best fits their individual lifestyles. Adoption Matchmakers also are available to help you select the perfect companion for your family and lifestyle.
Owning a pet is a long-term commitment, and KHS' goal is to ensure all adoters understand the responsiblities of pet ownership. We want both pets and people to find their new best friend!
Adoption Fee
$55-255 (plus an additional $9.50 for any applicable licensing fees)
Pets with a higher adoption fee leave a financial legacy for those animals who may need extensive medical care or just more time to find a lifelong home. To learn more about the "Lonely Hearts Club," click here.
The adoption fee includes:
- Spaying/neutering
- Microchipping
- Up-to-date vaccinations
- FREE "New Parent Seminar"
- Over $125 in KHS gift certificates (for the Eastpoint & Fern Creek Pet Resorts, Behavior Training program, adoptions and more!)
- $100 Feeders Supply coupon book
...on top of finding a lifelong friend!
We Now Can Hold an Animal for You!
For $25, you can place a 24-hour hold on an adoptable dog or cat either by credit card, cash or check (only accept credit card by phone). If you decide to adopt that pet, the $25 will be applied directly to his/her adoption fee. If you choose not to adopt, the $25 automatically becomes a donation to KHS. Questions? Call (502) 366-3355 today!
Adoption Process
All adoptable pets undergo a behavior evaluation and wellness exam, and remain up for adoption as long as health and behavior permits. There's no standard set time for adoptable animals to find a permanent, loving home.
It's often possible to adopt your new best friend on the spot. After selecting a dog or cat, potential adopters complete an adoption application, which is reviewed by one of our trained adoption team members. Please be advised that proof of address - current I.D., utility bill or check - will be required at the time of the adoption.

Please bring the completed application with you or fax to (502) 366-3653.
Please contact the Kentucky Humane Society's Adoption Center at (502) 366-3355 if you have any questions or need additional information.
