Animal Enrichment Program- Volunteers & Donations Needed!

We are implementing a new animal enrichment program for both cats and dogs! We need people to donate time and materials to help us get this program running. Animal Enrichment Volunteers can work with cats, dogs or both. This is a great opportunity for folks who would like to spend time with the animals but who do not feel comfortable walking the dogs.

The supplies that we need for feline enrichment are : Pom Poms (medium to large), soft pipe cleaners, empty toilet paper rolls, plastic Easter eggs, empty film canisters, aluminum foil, and packets of feathers.

For Canine enrichment we need : low sodium Chicken Broth, plain (unflavored) yogurt, Lavender essential oil, Rescue Remedy, puzzle toys (like Tug-a-Jugs, Tricky Treat Balls, Buster Food Cubes, etc.), and Easy Cheese.

These supplies will help us to provide all of the animals in our care with some much-needed variety. By offering an array of toys and mental challenges, we will reduce boredom and anxiety while increasing the adoptability of the animals in our care. Contact Jessica Durbin, the volunteer leader for the Animal Enrichment program, at jdurbin@poecompanies.com or drop donations off at the Steedly Campus. Thanks for all that you do!

Children learn about KHS, make dog treats, take a tour of our facility, interact with the animals and much more! Help us spread the word so that we can host even more parties and raise even more money for the animals in our care!

For more information on birthday parties, please contact me at jclark@kyhumane.org.

What is your favorite thing about volunteering at the KHS?
The best thing is just being around these wonderful animals. Showing them love... but the icing on the cake is getting love back from them no matter what.

What types of pets do you have at home?
I have 4 dogs (Alaskan Malamute, Husky, Staffshire, Dobbie), 3 cats, a fish and frogs. Plus, we feed anything that comes into our yard like birds, rabbits and squirrels!
