Prominent Community Leaders
Join KHS Board
April 10, 2006 (Louisville, Ky.) Two prominent Louisville community and business leaders recently have joined the board of directors for the state’s largest animal welfare organization, Louisville-based Kentucky Humane Society (KHS).
Patti Swope, Executive Vice President of Sam Swope Auto Group in charge of business development and community relations, and Debbie Scoppechio, founder and chairman-CEO of Creative Alliance, Inc., joined the KHS board in February and March, respectively.
KHS is enthusiastic about the latest additions to its board of directors. “The wealth of knowledge, experience and proven success they bring to the table are very impressive,” said KHS Chairman of the Board, Bill Roof. “We’re very proud these two amazing and accomplished women have made commitments to help guide our organization forward, as we hope to fully establish KHS as the area’s number one resource for pets and pet services, helping us save even more lives and helping even more people and their pets.”
Besides being a KHS board member and contributor, Swope is very active in the Louisville community, including doing volunteer work for the American Cancer Society, the Center for Women and Families, the National Association of Women Business Owners and the Kentucky Art and Craft Foundation, among many others. Swope’s true passion, however, lies with animal causes. She has been a volunteer for Golden Retriever Rescue and Adoption of Needy Dogs (GRRAND) and a supporter of the Shamrock Foundation. Swope also has been a long time volunteer for the Louisville Zoo and currently serves on the zoo’s board of trustees.
Scoppechio and the agency she founded in 1987 have been recognized with numerous accolades over the years, including being ranked by Advertising Age among the nation’s top 100 agencies. In addition to receiving 2005’s “Person of Vision” award from Prevent Blindness Kentucky, Scoppechio has been active in a number of community organizations, including Greater Louisville, Inc., The Metro Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee, University of Louisville Board of Overseers, and The Kentucky Center for the Arts, among others. In addition to providing strategic and creative direction to KHS, under Scoppechio’s direction, Creative Alliance has played a proactive role in supporting other community organizations, doing pro bono work for the Louisville Orchestra, Women 4 Women, Dream Factory and Metro United Way, among others. What’s more, Scoppechio fosters a pet-friendly workplace environment, allowing employees to bring their own pets to work.
Founded in 1884, the Kentucky Humane Society (KHS) is the oldest and largest animal welfare agency in the state. Through adoptions, behavior training, rescue efforts, Operation S.N.I.P., boarding and veterinary facilities, summer camp for kids and innovative programs like Pawsitive PetMatch, KHS is dedicated to improving the welfare of companion animals in our area.
