Puppies, though cute and moldable, are a handful!
Soiled carpeting, late nights and early mornings, teething - these
are just some of the behavior challenges you may face with a puppy.
For many, adopting an older dog may be a better option.
With older dogs you usually know about any behavior
challenges or health considerations up front so there are no surprises.
They're not as demanding. Like any pet, give them quality time
in the form of attention and walks. They may be more content to
curl up at your feet and nap.
And, to so set the record straight, you can teach
an old dog new tricks! They are still eager to learn. Since they
probably have had some training, new behaviors can be easily
learned.
The rewards are great when you adopt an older dog.
They provide loyalty, love, and companionship in their own quiet
and individual way. And... a thumping tail and a cold nose is
a wonderful thing to experience whatever the age.
