- The Kentucky Humane Society is offering this “at-cost” $10 fee to motivate pet owners to get their cats altered sooner, rather than later. That’s because, neutering your male kitten before he reaches 6 months of age is ideal, before he starts spraying to mark his territory or spends his nights “on the prowl.”
What’s more, an altered pet leads a longer, healthier life. In fact, neutered cats can live an average of 3 to 5 years longer because they are less likely to roam and get into fights, while they also have a lowered risk for contracting certain diseases and developing cancer.
