Finding a Second Chance at Happiness
From Problem Pet to Lifelong Friend: Willard
KHS Programs Save Stray Dog's Life; Finds Loving Home
KHS Programs Save Stray Dog's Life; Finds Loving Home
A stray puppy came to the Kentucky Humane Society, and the Veterinarian Services team quickly realized that the young canine needed immediate medical attention -- she not only suffered from an upper respiratory infection, but
also had a severe case of generalized demodectic mange. (Demodectic
mange is a skin condition caused by a weak immune system that leads to itchy skin, hair loss and secondary skin infections.)
KHS provided thorough medical care for the pup, lovingly nicknamed "Mercy" by KHS staff, and continued to moniter her progress regularly. But, KHS determined that foster care was her best option and a dedicated volunteer couple opened their home and hearts to Mercy, prepared to give her all the love and attention she deserved, as well as the constant monitoring needed to ensure a speedy recovery.
While in foster care, Mercy enjoyed daily play-time with her
"foster brothers" and the family's cats. She looked forward to the weekly trips that her and her foster family made to area parks, especially when snow
was on the ground.
After several months of medical treatment and meticulous care, Mercy fully recovered from demodectic mange and was ready to become someone's lifelong friend. The adorable pup found a loving, permanent home where she now enjoys
life as a happy family pet and friend!
