Derby would make a wonderful pet and lifelong friend, so call KHS at (502) 366-3355 for more information today!

Bozo, a gorgeous 1.5-year-old shorthaired calico, wants to join a great family! Aren't her markings beautiful? She’s an extremely affectionate and playful kitty who loves to purr. Bozo would be happiest indoors and wants to find a home where she’ll get lots of love and attention. Spayed and microchipped, with up-to-date vaccinations, this friendly kitty is ready to be your new best friend! Bozo can't wait to meet you, so come visit her today at the Clarksville KHS-Feeders Supply adoption site!

Touching Lives

Happy Beginnings: Maggie Mae
Featured in last month's KENNEL CHRONICLES, Maggie Mae came to KHS as a severely malnourished Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix, who could barely move since she was so underweight. Now, she is in foster care with a wonderful family and expected to make a full recovery. Here's a note from the foster family, who hopes to adopt Maggie Mae...

Dear Kentucky Humane Society,

Maggie Mae is doing great!  We have been looking for a dog like her for about a year now.  She's so affectionate...and she gets along with our six cats, two horses and one dog.

I don't think she had been in a house before, and she now knows how to go up and down stairs and just learned how to climb on the sofa.  Her first night here, I put her in a crate, and she cried for 3 hours straight. I took her out and made her a bed in my room and that is where is she has slept ever since.

Maggie Mae is such a smart and well-behaved dog. We just love her, and she is very happy with us. We want to adopt Maggie Mae and give her a forever home!

Sincerely,
Virgina H.

To the Rescue! Stories & Updates

Tyson
, a 5-year-old boxer mix, sustained serious injuries when attacked by another dog in mid-October. With open, oozing wounds on his head and legs, Tyson was brought to KHS, where he received immediate medical attention from the KHS rescue and veterinary services teams. Recovering quickly, Tyson was adopted to a great family in late October. KHS wishes them all the best!

A 3-year-old Cocker Spaniel was abandoned at KHS in late October, with her fur matted to the point of immobility. Frightened and confused, the poor dog could hardly even move. "Mattie," lovingly nicknamed by KHS staff, had her matted fur removed with the assistance of Rescue Director Mike McNutt. A much happier and healthier Mattie found her forever home in early November!

Appollo, a sweet 12-year-old Beagle mix, survived Hurricane Katrina, but unfortunately, his homeless owners could no longer care for him. Coming to KHS, the lonely dog was overlooked by many adopters due to his age. As the other animal hurricane survivors were quickly adopted, Appollo waited to find his forever home. Luckily, after a "Pet of the Week" appearance on WAVE3-TV, Appollo captured the hearts of the King family from Indianapolis, Ind. Adopting the lovable dog in mid-October, the family shared, "We'll give him a such great home!" Congratulations to Appollo and the Kings!

KHS Says, 'Enough is Enough.'
In an effort to combat the Louisville area's staggering pet overpopulation crisis, KHS, the state's largest animal welfare agency, is launching what's anticipated to be the most aggressive spay-neuter initiative of its kind in the state.

In order to fund this program, KHS instituted a mandatory admission fee effective November 9. The $25-per-animal fee will fund a public, low-cost spay-neuter campaign, with the goal of altering 1,000 pets in 2006 and 6,000 pets annually by the year 2008.
