Pets Looking for Homes

Boogey, a very easygoing 4-year-old Collie/German Shepherd mix, is such a sweetheart! He can't wait to find a loving home where he'll get plenty of exercise and attention. He's very well-behaved and calm, but he would do best with children 12 years and older since he can be a little shy and nervous at first - but he's a GREAT dog who will just adore you once you get to know him! Neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on all vaccinations, this lovable dog wants to find his forever home! Won't you be his new best friend? Boogey would make a wonderful pet and lifelong friend, so come visit him today at the Kentucky Humane Society's main campus! Or, call (502) 366-3355 for more information.

Melanie, a beautiful 1-year-old shorthaired tabby, is looking for her lifelong friend! Won't you give her a good home? Melanie is extremely affectionate and friendly, and just loves to be petted. She prefers to be indoors and can't wait to find a loving household where she'll get lots of attention. Spayed and microchipped, with up-to-date vaccinations, this sweet kitty wants to join a great family today! Melanie can't wait to meet you, so come visit her at the Kentucky Humane Society's Okolona Feeders Supply adoption site! Or, call (502) 366-3355 for more information.

Touching Lives

Happy Beginnings: Hattie

Hattie, a Hurricane Katrina survivor named after Hattiesburg, Miss., was a special case for KHS -- like many all-white dogs, the adorable 2-month-old Boxer mix suffered from some degree of deafness and may encounter future health problems. So, KHS placed Hattie in foster care until she found a loving family who understood her special needs.

Tim G., a Louisville resident and high school teacher, heard about Hattie's story and just fell in love upon meeting her in late September. Tim knew she would be his lifelong friend, so he adopted the sweet pup immediately, ready to give her a wonderful home. In a recent e-mail from Tim, he shared that Hattie is doing great, and "she's a tiny slice of heaven!" Congratulations to both Hattie and Tim!

To the Rescue! Stories & Updates

A severely malnourished and flea-infested Australian Shepherd mix came to KHS in early October in very poor condition. Weighing only 20 pounds, the poor dog could barely stand up and move around since she was so underweight. KHS staff lovingly named her "Maggie Mae" and currently are nursing her back to health, providing her with much needed nourishment and medical care. She's already gained more than five pounds and continues to gain strength. Maggie will remain in foster care until adopted by a wonderful family. KHS can't wait to help find her forever home!

As reported in the Fall issue of the Paw Street Journal, Ariel, who came to KHS with a severe bone infection to her front legs, is expected to have a full recovery, with no need for amputation. Her injuries are healing quickly, and she soon will be adopted to a loving family from Louisville. To read more about her rescue story in the Paw Street Journal, click here.

Two ferrets were brought to KHS as strays. KHS provided shelter, food and care for the two animals until they were placed into a permanent home together.

Look for more rescue stories and updates in the next KENNEL CHRONICLES and our quarterly newsletter, the Paw Street Journal!
