Spring Means More Orphaned Animals -
Make a Difference Today!
- Every time a human is born in America, so are 15 puppies and 45 kittens.
- 420,000 kittens can be born from one female cat and her offspring in 6 years.
- 67,000 puppies can be born from one female dog and her offspring in 7 years.
*Statistics from the Humane Society of the United States
The statistics are staggering. For many, spring means the return of warmer weather and longer days, but for KHS it means hundreds of kittens and puppies will be coming through our doors.
Yet, no matter how young or old, each animal depends upon the people who care for them.
Won't you help KHS provide shelter, food, medical care and more for abandoned animals this spring? YOU can make a difference!
- Become a KHS Foster Parent! Open your home and your heart to care for special needs animals who are not yet ready to be

To the Rescue! Stories & Updates
Every month, KHS helps hundreds of animals in need. Here are just a couple of our rescue stories...
"Magic," a stray 3-year-old Chocolate Labrador Retriever, was rescued by KHS in Taylorsville, Ky., after being struck by a vehicle. The poor dog obviously was in shock from pain. Without any visible injuries or broken bones, the KHS rescue team became concerned that there may be internal problems and possibly bleeding.
Once at the main campus, a KHS veterinarian immediately examined Magic and determined that his pelvic region had been injured. His bladder had been severely affected by the impact, possibly limiting his ability to relieve himself. After stabilization and monitoring by KHS staff, it was determined that Magic's condition appeared to be improving.
Then, his owners from Taylorsville discovered that Magic, who had escaped from their home, was taken to KHS for medical care. Magic was reunited with his owners on February 28. KHS wishes Magic a speedy recovery!
"Hillary," a 4-month-old hound mix, came to KHS in mid-January with her sister, Sally. When Sally was adopted, Hillary became depressed, making her more susceptible to illnesses.
Developing pneumonia, which can possibly be life-threatening, Hillary suffered from incessant coughing, appetite loss and listlessness. KHS staff immediately began a regimented medical treatment plan that consisted of antibiotic therapy and constant monitoring. Once her condition became more stable, Hillary was placed in foster care where she continued to receive medical care.
Feeling better, the sweet dog's appetite returned to normal, so she soon gained weight and began playing like a puppy again. Hillary was adopted to a loving couple in late February! Congratulations to Hillary and her new family!
-Update on a Story from the February KENNEL CHRONICLES -
"Miracle," a 2-year-old dilute tortoiseshell who sustained major wounds from a fan belt, is ready to join a great family. She's up for adoption now!
