Help KHS find homes for thousands of needy dogs and cats! Here are just a couple of our adoptable pets...

"Maggie," a 10-year-old white Jack Russell terrier mix, and "Murphy," a 9-year-old black Labrador retriever mix, are best friends looking for a home together! Even though they look like complete opposites, Maggie and Murphy have been inseparable for years -- they love to walk together, play together and snuggle up with each other. But, they also want a new family to adore since they love people, too! These best buds are already housebroken and would do best in a quiet, loving home without young children.

Spayed and neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on all vaccinations, Maggie and Murphy can't wait to share their lives with YOU! Won't you give them a good home together? Learn more about Maggie and Murphy and find out where you can meet them by calling (502) 366-3355 today!

Teabo, a very handsome 2-year-old brown tabby, is a big sweetheart!  Won't you be his new best friend? Friendly and playful, this affectionate boy cat just adores attention (and playtime!). He loves to be indoors and gets along great with other cats and dogs...so this lovable kitty may just be perfect for you and your family. Neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on all vaccinations, Teabo just wants to find his forever home!

Come visit Teabo today at the Kentucky Humane Society's St. Matthews Feeders Supply adoption site!
Or, call (502) 366-3355 for more information.

To the Rescue! Stories & Updates
Every month, KHS helps hundreds of animals in need. Here are just a couple of our rescue stories...

"Santo," a stray 6-month-old beagle, came to KHS in late April with his sister, "Rose Petal." They both were absolutely frightened of everything at first. Extremely submissive and scared, Santo and Rose Petal appeared to have had little contact with humans before arriving at KHS. While Rose Petal quickly began trusting people and acting like a typical puppy, Santo constantly hid inside his cage or under furniture, afraid of being petted or held.

After much observation, the KHS rescue and behavior team determined that Rose Petal was very dominant and protective of Santo, so keeping them together would be more detrimential than helpful for Santo. KHS placed Rose Petal up for adoption, who quickly found a permanent home.

Desperately needing to be socialized, Santo was placed in foster care with Marilyn M., a wonderful KHS volunteer. She continues to work with him each day, as he learns to trust people. KHS hopes that the one-on-one bonding will help Santo come out of his shell very soon, so he, too, can find his lifelong home!

"Sunny," a sweet 3-year-old red Husky mix, came to KHS in early April heartworm positive. Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially fatal illness for infected dogs. Thankfully, Sunny is receiving treatment and soon will be placed in foster care until he's fully recovered and ready for adoption.

If interested in fostering Sunny or other special needs pets, please call (502) 515-3138.

FOCUS ON VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS:
Operation S.N.I.P. Approaches Milestone, Thanks to Volunteers

On April 30, KHS' Operation S.N.I.P. spay-neuter program completed its 500th surgery, putting the public, low-cost spay-neuter campaign well on its way toward meeting the goal of spaying or neutering 1,000 owned pets in 2006.

The program is aimed at members of the community who otherwise could not afford to sterilize their pets. The clinics are held weekly and offer spay-neuter surgeries at a significantly discounted rate, as much as 70 percent less than what one might pay elsewhere. This is thanks to dozens of trained volunteers who assist licensed veterinarians in surgery preparation and recovery, as well as with scheduling clinic appointments, patient registration and other duties.

Like many other KHS programs, Operation S.N.I.P. is staffed almost completely by volunteers and, therefore, is constantly in need of people willing to volunteer their time on a weekly or monthly basis. Training is required for some positions. To read more, click here.

To learn more about Operation S.N.I.P. or schedule an appointment, call (502) 366-3355 or click here.
