Pets Looking for Homes
Help KHS find homes for thousands of unwanted dogs and cats! Here are just a couple of pets looking for homes...
"Dribbles," a two-year-old St. Bernard mix, is just a big sweetheart! Coming to KHS in December 2006, this gorgeous girl doesn't want to wait any longer to find a loving home. Friendly and playful, Dribbles is an energetic canine who loves attention and playing with her favorite ball. She's already housebroken and knows basic commands, but would do best in a home without other canines and children at least six years and older.

Spayed and microchipped, with up-to-date vaccinations, this "Lonely Hearts Club" member can offer a lifetime of companionship if given a chance! Come meet Dribbles today by visiting the KHS main campus! Or, call (502) 366-3355 for more information.
"Ty," an eight-month-old white and gray tabby, will just steal the show...and your heart! Full of energy and affection, this handsome boy wants to be center of attention. Ty loves to play with his toys, explore new places and be with other cats, but he would be happiest in a home without dogs.
Neutered and microchipped, with up-to-date vaccinations, Ty is ready to go home with YOU. Come visit him at the KHS main campus! Or, call (502) 366-3355 for more information.
No Spring Break...The Animals Need Your Help Now!
Spring is in the air --warmer weather, blooming trees and vacation time. But, it also brings more homeless pets to KHS. With over 425 animals in our care right now, there is no spring break for the state's largest animal welfare agency.

Help KHS care for hundreds of orphaned
dogs and cats this spring!
No matter how young or old, each animal depends upon the people who care for them...and KHS depends upon your generous support to care for more needy pets.
Won't you help KHS provide shelter, food, medical care and more for abandoned
animals this spring? YOU can make a difference!

To the Rescue! Stories & Updates
Every month, KHS helps hundreds of animals in need. Here are just a couple of our rescue stories...
In late March, “Sage,” a one-year-old brown and white tabby, was discovered wandering a street in downtown Louisville, Ky. The stray cat not only was dirty and unkempt, but also extremely underweight. Thankfully, a kind resident brought Sage to KHS for medical attention.
Upon examination, the KHS veterinary team noticed that Sage’s body was trembling. Gaunt and weak, the young feline clearly suffered from malnourishment. Thus, the staff recommended foster care, so she could receive proper nutrition and gain a substantial amount of weight.
Yet, while in foster care, Sage also developed an upper respiratory infection that caused severe congestion. Concerned that the illness would hinder her progress, a KHS veterinarian began Sage on antibiotic therapy, alongside daily appetite stimulants to ensure full recuperation.
Sage remains in foster care with a dedicated volunteer, where she continues to gain weight and recover from her infection. KHS wishes her a speedy recovery!
After spending an afternoon with their grandchildren in late March, the Carter family returned home to find "Rigby," an injured German shorthaired pointer mix, on their front porch in Bedford, Ky. Though the adult canine appeared calm and friendly, there was a sizeable gash on his rear left thigh, so Rick and his wife contacted the KHS Rescue Director for help.
“We did what we could for him,” shared Rick. “But, we assumed he had been hit by a car after looking at his injuries, so we knew he needed more.”
A KHS rescue officer arrived at the scene and promptly transported Rigby to the KHS main campus. Once there, a KHS veterinarian examined the two-year-old dog and placed him on antibiotic treatment to avoid the spread of infection from the open wound on his leg. Once fully recovered, Rigby will be ready to find his permanent, loving home!

Touching Lives: Baby
One of many letters from adopters who found a great companion at KHS...
Dear KHS,

Hello, wonderful people! I was writing to let you know that "Yellow Dog," who now goes by "Baby," is doing well. He's walking three miles a day and went for his first grooming session. He didn't like it that much, but he sure is a handsome boy!
Just a little note to let you all know he is doing GREAT!
Sincerely,
Charlotte H.
