Pets Looking for Homes

Help KHS find homes for thousands of needy dogs and cats! Here are just a couple of our adoptable pets...

Stoli, a five-year-old hound mix, is always on the go! Friendly and playful, this happy-go-lucky boy loves to run, play and run some more. Stoli appears to get along with other dogs and be housetrained, but he would do best in a home with children six years and older.

Neutered, microchipped and vaccinated, Stoli can't wait to be your new sidekick! Come visit him today at the KHS main campus!  Or, call (502) 366-3355 for more information.

"Handsome," a three-month-old shorthaired kitten, lives up to his name! This adorable boy is full of energy and curiosity. Handsome loves to run and play, but he also loves attention.

Neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on all vaccinations, this sweet kitty can offer a lifetime of companionship if given a chance!
Come visit Handsome today at the Fern Creek KHS-Feeders Supply adoption site!
Or, call (502) 366-3355 for more information.

KHS Earns High Marks for Fiscal Responsibility
One of Only Nine State Charities to Receive 4-Star Rating

KHS was awarded the highest overall rating by Charity Navigator, the nation’s leading charity evaluator. KHS was one of only nine state charities and the only animal welfare organization in Kentucky and Indiana to receive the four-star rating.

With less than 25 percent of evaluated charities earning these marks, this accolade recognizes KHS as a non-profit organization that outperforms most other national charities through sound fiscal management, program and financial growth, and commitment to donor privacy. Click here to read more.

To the Rescue! & Touching Lives Story
Every month, KHS helps hundreds of animals in need. Here's just one of our rescue stories...

In late June, Wilson, a stray three-year-old Pomeranian, was attacked by another dog. Thankfully, a kind resident in South Louisville rescued the injured canine and took him to a local animal hospital for immediate medical assistance. Once examined and provided medication to treat his bite wounds, the rescuer brought Wilson to KHS for additional help.

Yet, when the small dog’s wounds refused to heal, longtime volunteer Marilyn McLendon was asked to foster Wilson until he fully recovered from his injuries and regained his confidence.

Despite more than three years of fostering needy animals, Marilyn quickly decided to adopt Wilson herself. “He blended into my house well,” she said. “He bonded with me so well and he gets along with other animals so I can still foster.”

Besides interacting with the other fosters animals, Wilson loves playing with toys and taking walks. “He loves to wrestle with Dalton, my KHS adopted cat,” Marilyn said.

Marilyn said Wilson has made a full recovery, including becoming less timid. He is almost housebroken and curently enrolled in the KHS “Manners for Life” behavior training class to learn basic obedience.

“He’s incredibly friendly, easy-going and loves people,” she said. “He’s a silly little thing.”

Although Marilyn expected a larger breed dog in her future, she loves Wilson and hopes every stray animal can be lucky enough to find a forever home.

“I want every animal to have had at least a chance,” she said. “They deserve a chance.”
