Pets Looking for Homes
Help KHS find homes for thousands of unwanted dogs and cats! Here are just a couple of pets looking for homes...
"Cuddle," a two-year-old Labrador retriever mix, can't wait to be YOUR new sidekick! Friendly and playful, this happy-go-lucky canine can keep up with an active lifestyle. Cuddle appears to get along with other dogs, walks well on a leash and already knows some basic commands, but he would do best with children six years and older.
Neutered and microchipped, with up-to-date vaccinations, this sweet boy doesn't want to wait any longer to find his lifelong home! Come meet Cuddle today by visiting the Kentucky Humane Society's main campus! Or, call (502) 366-3355 for more information.
Daisy, a twelve-year-old shorthaired orange tabby, wants to be your faithful furball! Regal and relaxed, this gorgeous girl is a mellow cat with few worries. Not only is she very affectionate, Daisy also appears to like other cats.
Spayed, microchipped and up-to-date on all vaccinations, this "Lonely Hearts Club" member can offer a lifetime of companionship if given a chance! Come visit Daisy today at the Clarksville KHS-Feeders Supply adoption site! Or, call (502) 366-3355 for more information.
It's Raining Cats & Kittens - Become a Foster Parent Today!
Spring not only brings a change in weather, but it also brings a true epidemic in our community and nationwide -- "kitten season." Beginning this month, female cats become pregnant and then give birth, flooding KHS and local animal shelters with hundreds of homeless kittens.

With hundreds of cats and kittens coming through our
doors, we desperately need foster parents TODAY!
Won't you open your home and your heart to care for a feline friend (or friends) in need?
- We Rely on Wonderful People like YOU to Foster Animals! With so many kittens too young to be adopted out, as well as adult pets who just need a little extra time before being placed for adoption, foster care volunteers make all the difference.
- Time Commitments Vary, so Anyone Can Foster! Whether you can provide a temporary home for a few days, weeks or months, you can help out! Plus, you don't need to attend a volunteer orientation to get involved as a foster parent.

- Foster Families are Just Like YOUR Family! Most foster parents work full-time, have other (fully vaccinated) pets and are true animal lovers...just like you!
- Students Can Receive Community Service for Fostering Animals! What a terrific way to serve the community...and you can do it at home!
- It's Easy to Get Involved with Our Foster Care Program! Just click here to learn more and download our foster parent application.
Unable to foster at this time? Then, click here to make a donation online today! Help KHS provide shelter, food, medical care and more during "kitten season" and throughout the year. The more money you give, the more animals we can save. It's as simple as that.

To the Rescue! Stories & Updates
Every month, KHS helps hundreds of animals in need. Here are just a couple of our rescue stories...
"Sasha," a three-year-old Siberian husky mix, was rescued by KHS in late January. Her right front paw was visibly injured, so the KHS Spencer County rescue officer immediately transported the adult dog to the KHS main campus for medical attention. Upon examination, the veterinarian concluded that Sasha’s paw may have been caught in a trap, causing trauma to her toes.
Unfortunately, due to irreversible nerve and tissue damage, it was determined that amputation was necessary for her two middle toes. After undergoing surgery, Sasha was placed in foster care to ensure a speedy recovery. After weeks of cage rest, this happy-go-lucky canine was ready to find her lifelong home. Thankfully, Sasha did not have to wait long. She was adopted by a loving family on February 11!
Congratulations to Sasha and her new family!
"Hillary," a two-year-old boxer, was discovered wandering the streets in Fairdale, Ky. and transported to the KHS main campus for help. Upon preliminary examination and testing, the KHS veterinary team discovered that Hillary was heartworm positive. If left untreated, heartworm disease is a serious and potentially fatal illness for infected dogs.
Luckily, Hillary began treatment and has been placed in foster care until she’s fully recovered and ready for adoption. KHS wishes Hillary all the best!

Touching Lives: Kennedy
One of many stories from adopters who found a great companion at KHS...
Dear KHS,
I’m the proud owner of three wonderful furry boys – Sidney, a 13.5-year-old shepherd mix; Morgan, a five-year-old Redbone Coonhound; and Kennedy, a 10-year-old Canaan, who was adopted from KHS as a three-month-old puppy.
My husband heard about Kennedy on the radio and adopted him that day for my Mother’s Day gift. I had been through back surgery and was feeling down in the dumps. My husband, Bruce, rang the doorbell and hid, so I would only see this black dog. I opened the door, and Kennedy ran in, spinning and dancing around – just what the doctor ordered!

He’s a very smart dog. When I started having a behavior problem with Morgan, we started obedience classes. From there, I started agility classes with Kennedy when he was five years old. Wow, did Kennedy ever have fun! It just clicked. But, I had no idea we would ever compete. I just thought it was something fun to do with my dog.
We kept going to classes and we both got better. After two years of training, I decided to enter an agility trial. I was a bundle of nerves. We did okay but didn't qualify. So, I kept entering trials. Now, Kennedy is in the “excellent” class when competing and has won numerous titles.
We go to the agility classes at KHS and have a lot of fun. I assist with training in the classes, and I also build most of the equipment for the agility course at KHS (all volunteer work). We have one of the best agility facilities in Louisville. Not bad for someone that wasn’t going to compete. Talk about the confidence you build in your dog – you also build it in yourself.
Thanks so much for Kennedy and helping boost both of our confidence!
Sincerely,
Lisa D.
