Meet Cha Cha, Our "Spokes-Cat"!

(Editors note:  Cha Cha passed away in early 2011.  As a tribute, we decided to leave this column penned by her a few years ago on our website.  We miss you Cha Cha -- and thanks for looking after us for six years.)

Meow! My name is Cha Cha, and I’ve been with the Kentucky Humane Society since 2005. I used to live with a family but there were “litter box issues.” Now at KHS, I am an official greeter, adoption counselor & stress reliever. Every day I deal with kids and adults who want to pet me, people talking "baby talk" to me...oh, and ruling KHS.

I love what I do & just know I’m making a difference in the lives of everyone here. It’s so special when someone adopts a kitten or cat, and I know they will have a furever friend. Lots of people adopt puppies or adult dogs. I personally can’t understand why, but they seem happy and the dogs’ tails are wagging so I guess it’s a good thing.

Oh, did I mention I’m a cat?? I also answer to Diva, Princess or Her Majesty. I have plenty of staff to fill my bowls & clean my facilities but I am on call 24/7. I have to be available for chin rubs, back scratches or whenever someone is having a bad day and needs help relaxing.

By the way, I'm famous. I recently was a television star. I was selected to be in a KHS commercial to help promote chosing the "adoption option." My commercial aired on local stations, as well as Discovery and Animal Planet. It was hard work but I have to say that I am a pretty good actress...

Next time you visit the KHS main campus, stop by the adoptions counter to see me. I’ll be glad to visit with you if I’m not too busy sleeping. Maybe I'll even give you my pawtograph.
