Guaranteed Attempt to Place (GAP)

gap_program.jpg

The Kentucky Humane Society (KHS) understands how difficult it can be to surrender a pet. That’s why we offer the Guaranteed Attempt to Place (GAP) program. Through this optional program, we can assure that your cat or dog will be placed for adoption, giving you peace of mind that your pet will have a second chance at a permanent, loving home. Plus, all GAP fees help support KHS mission programs.

Benefits of the GAP Program

  • Guarantee that your pet will be placed for adoption, as long as s/he passes the health and behavior evaluation
  • Ability to monitor a pet’s progress while in the program
  • Option of reclaiming your pet if s/he is not adopted during the designated timeframe or if s/he develops any health or behavioral problems

GAP Fees

  • Health/Temperament Evaluation - $25 (nonrefundable)
  • If accepted into program (15 days):
    • Un-immunized and Not Spayed/Neutered - $100
    • Immunized or Spayed/Neutered (with proof) - $75
    • Immunized and Spayed/Neutered (with proof) - $50
  • Enrollment into program for an additional 15 days:
    • At time of surrender - Additional $50
    • At the end of the original 15 days - Additional $75

Program Enrollment
KHS only has one admissions location – the main campus in South Louisville. View directions and hours of operation.

When you bring your pet to KHS, please express your interest in the GAP program. Within 20 minutes, you will know if the cat or dog passes our evaluations and can be placed up for adoption through the program. Please note- All animals are spayed or neutered before becoming available for adoption at one of the eight KHS adoption locations.

If the cat or dog is not adopted within the 15-day period, you have the option of reclaiming the pet, paying an additional enrollment fee for a second and final 15-day GAP adoption period, or surrendering ownership to KHS. If an animal is deemed to be un-adoptable for any reason during the placement process, the owner must reclaim the animal or choose to surrender him/her to KHS.

If you have additional questions, please view our frequently asked questions or call (502) 366-3355.
