Employee Spotlight Gretchen Winkler, Fern Creek Pet Resort Assistant Leader
Years with KHS: 8
What got you interested in working for the Kentucky Humane
Society?
How do you describe your job to people? When I tell people that I get to work with cats and dogs all day they are so jealous! I make sure that every human client is comfortable with leaving their animal in our hands while they are away. I also help ensure that the staff at Fern Creek Pet Resort (including myself) does everything possible to make sure that every animal is as comfortable and safe as possible while they are at the resort.
What else do you do? I love to go running to relieve stress and have time to myself. I always love going to concerts in my free time. I've just started learning to cook to try to be a better wife, but I'm pretty sure my husband would prefer we just went back to frozen pizzas! What is your favorite part about working for KHS? I love the fact that by working at one of the pet resorts, you get to see familiar faces all the time. You get to know the different dogs that come in either every day for Doggie Daycare, every month for grooming or every summer for boarding. The best part is not only seeing how happy the dogs are to see their owners again, but how excited they get when they come to visit. That is what lets the owners know how much we love and take care of their dogs! How many pets do you have? Two dogs: Droopy is a Bloodhound/Mastiff mix and Dallas is a Beagle mix One cat: Memphis One potbelly pig: Mr. Bojangles One ferret: Scout
