Fun & Educational Summer Camps!
Let your child learn about pet guardianship while having fun! In 2013, the Kentucky Humane Society will host its 26th year of summer camp with some new twists.
Kids can choose from three unique camps at two locations:
Lifelong Friends Camp (ages 6-12) More info
Located at our Main Campus, 241 Steedly Drive. This camp for 6-12 year olds has the largest number of pets. Limited bus transportation is available from the East End to our Main Campus.
Wags 'N' Whiskers Camp (ages 6-12) More info
Located at our East Campus, 1000 Lyndon Lane. Designed for 6-12 year olds, this camp has fewer animals than our Main Campus.
Animal Advocate Camp (ages 12-16) More info
Located at our Main Campus, 241 Steedly Drive, with a field trip to our S.N.I.P. Clinic. This camp is designed for teens interested in learning more about animal welfare issues and careers. Students must submit an essay in order to be admitted to this camp.

Lifelong Friends Campers will gain an understanding of the impact they can have as animal ambassadors, while having fun making new friends, two-legged and four-legged! All activities are designed to empower campers to make a difference for shelter animals. Lifelong Friends Campers will learn how to help our furry friends by:
- Creating promotional videos of some of our awesome adoptable pets
- Participating in a service project to benefit the animals of KHS
- Bathing and brushing shelter animals
- Taking a behind-the-scenes tour to see our lifesaving mission in action
- Playing with dozens of puppies, cats and kittens

Children are grouped according to age. Extended care and Pizza Friday options also are available.
New in 2013: KHS offers transportation to the Main Campus from our East Campus locations the weeks of June 10-15, 18-22, 25-29, and July 8-12 only. Campers will be picked up at our East Campus, 1000 Lyndon Lane, at 8:30 a.m. and returned to this location at 4:30 p.m. during select weeks. $25.

Wags N' Whiskers is a dog/cat themed experience where campers participate in five days of animal fun that will get their tails wagging! Campers will meet other animal lovers and learn about responsible pet care by:
- Socializing with the adoptable animals
- Learning about all responsibilities in owning a pet
- Making toys and treats for their own pets
- Practicing humane, positive training techniques
- Exploring animal-related careers
Wags N' Whisker campers will enhance their learning experience through animal-related crafts, games, videos, guest speakers, skits and more! Each week of camp will include a visit to the local park, weather permitting. *Please note that the KHS East Campus is an satellite adoption facility and the number and variety of animals located there is smaller. Generally, we have a selection of kitties, puppies and limited large dogs.

Animal Advocates Camp - Ages 12-16

KHS Animal Advocate Camp is designed for young adults who have a sincere passion for animals and want hands-on experience with our shelter while learning about animal welfare issues and careers. Along with being assigned a shelter animal to care for, campers will...
- Get an in-depth behind-the-scenes tour of the shelter
- Meet professionals in animal-related careers such as behavior trainers, rescue officers, veterinarians and more
- Explore animal welfare issues, including puppy mills and dog fighting
- Take a field trip to KHS S.N.I.P. Clinic to view surgeries and learn about the importance of spaying and neutering pets
- Have the opportunity to become a student volunteer
- Help bathe animals and keep animal spaces clean
