Pet-Focused, Fun Camps

Fun & Educational Summer Camps!

Our camps have all filled and we are no longer accepting new registrations. We hope to see you next summer!


Let your child learn about pet guardianship while having fun! In 2015, the Kentucky Humane Society will host its 28th year of summer camp with some new twists.

Kids can choose from three unique camps at two locations:

Lifelong Friends Camp (ages 6-12)   

Located at our Main Campus, 241 Steedly Drive. This camp for 6-12 year olds has the largest number of pets.

Kids N' Canines (ages 6-12)  

Located at our East Campus, 1000 Lyndon Lane. Designed for 6-12 year olds. This program will include both shelter pets and campers' own canines!

 Animal Advocate Camp (ages 12-16) 

Located at our Main Campus, 241 Steedly Drive, with a field trip to our S.N.I.P. Clinic. This camp is designed for teens interested in learning more about animal welfare issues and careers. Students must submit an essay in order to be admitted to this camp.

Lifelong Friends Camp - Ages 6-12

Weeklong Camp – $185
9 a.m.-4 p.m. (extended care available)

June 8-12, June 15-19, June 22-26, June 29-July 3, July 6-10, July 13-17, August 3-7

Lifelong Friends Campers will gain an understanding of the impact they can have as animal ambassadors, while having fun making new friends, two-legged and four-legged! All activities are designed to empower campers to make a difference for shelter animals. Lifelong Friends Campers will learn how to help our furry friends by:

  • Learning about pets and pet responsibility.
  • Participating in a service project to benefit the animals of KHS
  • Bathing and brushing shelter animals.
  • Taking a behind-the-scenes tour to see our lifesaving mission in action.
  • Playing with dozens of puppies, cats and kittens.

This special shelter-focused camp will help Lifelong Friends campers enhance their learning experience through animal-related crafts, games, videos, guest speakers, and more! Sign up your child to become a Lifelong Friend today! 

Children are grouped according to age. Extended care and Pizza Friday options also are available.

Kids 'N' Canines - Ages 6-12

June 8-12, June 15-19, June 22-26, June 29-July 3, July 6-10, July 13-17, July 20-24, July 27-31, August 3-7

The Kentucky Humane Society’s summer camps are going to the dogs. Kids & Canines is a weeklong camp for everyone, including the family dog! Designed to strengthen the bond between children and their pets, Kids & Canines Camp teaches children the many facets of proper pet care. As an added bonus, campers are invited to bring their dog to one day of camp for only $25! 

 As a part of this camp, children will

  • Experience specific training techniques to use on a current or future pet.
  • Discover how proper grooming helps keep pets healthy.
  • Play games designed to help children understand dog behavior.
  • Create toys and treats for their pet.

Whether you have a dog or may adopt a companion later in life, this camp will develop your child’s confidence and teach him or her how to respect our four-legged friends.
*Maximum of two days of camp per dog. Subject to evaluation of dog.


Animal Advocates Camp - Ages 12-16

KHS Animal Advocate Camp is designed for young adults who have a sincere passion for animals and want hands-on experience with our shelter while learning about animal welfare issues and careers. Along with helping care for our homeless animals, campers will...

  • Get an in-depth behind-the-scenes tour of the shelter
  • Meet professionals in animal-related careers such as behavior trainers, rescue officers, veterinarians and more
  • Explore animal welfare issues, including puppy mills and dog fighting
  • Take a field trip to KHS S.N.I.P. Clinic to view surgeries and learn about the importance of spaying and neutering pets
  • Help bathe animals and keep animal spaces clean
