Guaranteed Attempt to Place (GAP)

The Kentucky Humane Society (KHS) understands how difficult it can be to surrender a pet. That’s why we offer the Guaranteed Attempt to Place (GAP) program. Through this optional program, we can assure that your cat or dog will be placed for adoption, giving you peace of mind that your pet will have a second chance at a permanent, loving home. Plus, all GAP fees help support KHS mission programs.

Benefits of the GAP Program

·         Canine behavior evaluation (4 months of age or older) completed while owner/finder waits.

·         Owner/finder may monitor pet’s progress while in the shelter.

·         Owner/finder will be notified if pet becomes ineligible for program due to behavior or health.

·         Pet may be reclaimed by owner/finder at no charge at any time.

·         There is no time limit once enrolled.

·         Optional GAP services designed to benefit the pet.

GAP Fees

• Dog or puppy: $75
• Litter of 2-5 (dogs/puppies): $100
• Litter of 6-10 (dogs/puppies): $150
• Cat or kitten:  $50
• Litter of 2-5 (cats/kittens): $75
• Litter of 6-10 (cats/kittens): $100
• A la carte GAP Options
  • Notification within 24 hours of your pet being adopted: $10
  • Enrollment in Camp Canine behavior training program: $20
  • "Pet of the Week" media exposure: $20
  • GAP Bundle (All three a la carte options): $35

Program Enrollment

At KHS, we make every effort to place all animals that are surrendered to us through our adoption program, partnering with rescue groups, transport programs, and placement of community cats through our Barn Cat adoption program.
