Get Involved: Volunteer!

Volunteer!

Thank you for your interest in supporting the Kentucky Humane Society as a volunteer! There are many different ways to volunteer with KHS, each with different levels of time commitment, training requirements, and expectations. If you need less than 20 hours of service, we ask that you complete service through the “At-Home Pet Project Packet.” This includes creating enrichment for animals, hosting a Wish List Drive, fostering animals, and so much more. Please visit our Volunteer Website to read the program’s FAQ and apply to be a volunteer.

Please note that our biggest need for volunteers are dog and cat socialization/walking at our Sam Swope Pet TLC location.

Our East Campus location hosts limited orientations throughout the year to accommodate the need for support at our Sam Swope Pet TLC. Our first orientation for adults and students begins in April 2024 and the Summer 2024. If you are interested in volunteering at this location, please visit our Volunteer Website to create a profile and our Volunteer Manager will reach out to you after. If you are still interested in volunteering with KHS in general, please be aware that new volunteers will only be accepted for our Sam Swope Pet TLC and S.N.I.P Clinic locations.

Please check back for updates about Willow Hope Farm and Purrfect Day Cat Cafe acceptance of new volunteers.

For returning and current volunteers, you can find available shifts on Volunteer Hub and updates regarding the program on our Volunteer Website. If you are unable to log in to Volunteer Hub, or have questions about returning including our most up-to-date COVID procedures, please contact [email protected] or 502-272-1052. We kindly request your patience with a response time of up to two weeks, and we sincerely appreciate your understanding.

If it has been longer than a year since you have attended orientation, taken a training, or worked a volunteer shift, please contact us before signing up for a shift.

Youth Volunteers

If you are a student seeking active volunteer hours for school requirements, we kindly ask that please visit our Volunteer Website to fill out an application. We do have a volunteer orientation in April as well as having one in the Summer 2024. If you have specific hour requirements that can be fulfilled by engaging in activities for KHS from home and are acceptable to your school, please contact our Volunteer Engagement Manager at [email protected] for additional details. Please feel free to drop off your donations any time during or after business hours at our East Campus location. There is a donation bin outside the doors that is checked multiple times a day to bring donations in. No need to schedule a drop off time, please bring in the donations as you wish. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to your potential involvement. Thank you.

Group Volunteer Projects

We are so thrilled that your business or company is interested in a volunteer group project at our shelter! We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities based on the needs of the shelter and size of the group. To continue supporting our volunteer program and the animals we serve, we ask for a $500 monetary donation at the time of the group project. Please contact our Volunteer Engagement Manager at [email protected] or 502-272-1052 for additional information.
