Hello, my name is Henry, aka Hennie. At only four-months-old, I was  left under the bushes in the chill of night at the Kentucky Humane Society (KHS) with a broken right front leg and battered right eye. No one could imagine how a person could hurt me so badly.

I looked at those loving faces at KHS with the most pathetic face I could muster and they decided to fix me. After my injuries were all tended to and healed, the staff decided that I was ready to be available for adoption.

I love my new home and being so well taken care of. I am enthusiastic about life and having fun, especially in the morning. My mother says it’s infectious. I retrieve and have a couple of tricks I learned at obedience training. A tennis ball and going to the dog park puts a huge smile on my face. In Kentucky, I ran loose on a large property. We have now moved to California and I must be on a leash.  It’s okay - actually, it’s my mother who’s on the leash, not me. She’s my security blanket.

I learned that not making a mess gets me far.  I’ve never, without cause, made a mess in the house. I let my mother know what I need and a schedule with regular diet and exercise keeps me a happy dog. Jack Russell Terriers often suffer with skin allergies. A sweet potato and fish diet, dry and canned, keeps me comfortable.

Mother says I’m her diet plan. I monitor the kitchen all day in case a treat drops whenever the refrigerator or dishwasher doors open. I even know when the dishes are going into the dishwasher because that may mean a good lick.

With the warmer climate and now in my “golden years,” they say I have earned my perfect life. Get a dog and yours will be better too! I have a paver in my name at KHS and will always be a loyal, grateful alumni. For now, I’ll enjoy just another day in paradise.
