KHS Barn Cat Placement Program

Will work for food!

How It Works: The Kentucky Humane Society is pleased to announce our Barn Cat Placement Program, a partnership between KHS, Alley Cat Advocates and Metro Animal Services.

We are looking for cat lovers who have a barn or other secure outdoor structure (garage, warehouse, factory, etc.) and are interested in adopting cats not suited for life inside of a house or are unhappy living inside.

We have three types of barn cats: feral, semi-feral and "friendly."

  1. True ferals have been trapped and want nothing to do with humans
  2. Semi-ferals are used to being around humans and are not as frightened, but still keep any interaction to a minimum
  3. "Friendlies" are cats who can't be placed as regular lap kitties due to issues such as minor biting or scratching or inappropriate  litter box use but they do like people and, on occasion, will seek you our for attention.

This program is not a relocation program for cat colonies who have a caregiver and who are safe in their environment, nor is it a solution for every "unadoptable" cat. Some cats will not do well in an indoor/outdoor environment such as a barn or garage due to health, temperament or a variety of other issues.

Supporting a barn cat is the safest way to control the rodent population in your barn or other outside environment such as a garage, shed or warehouse. There is no need for poisons which children or pets may get into and no need to set nasty traps. They will help keep rodents away from grain and food storage areas, and you will enjoy watching the cats as well as have the satisfaction of giving them a much-needed home!
