Free Pit Bull Surgeries
Because of the overpopulation of this breed in our area, no pit bull will be turned away as a S.N.I.P. Clinic client, regardless of the owner’s financial situation. KHS reserves several surgery spots each month to perform free pit bull surgeries for those who cannot afford the low-cost rates. When calling for the free pit bull surgery, please indicate you are requesting this service so you can be scheduled appropriately.

According to the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), approximately 6 to 8 million cats and dogs enter animal shelters every year and, on average, 30 percent of the surrendered canines are pit bulls or pit bull mixes. This statistic is attributed to the lack of spaying and neutering and also because pit bulls seem to be the dog of choice for dogfighters.

“There is an overpopulation of pit bulls in Louisville and surrounding areas,” said Lindsy Wallace, the then-KHS Animal Welfare Director who helped spearhead the S.N.I.P. Clinic. “Pit bulls actually have much larger litters than other dog breeds and can birth up to 13 to 14 puppies at a time, which is more than double the average litter size by other canines.”
