Stray Pets

Pets Brought to KHS as Strays by the Public

The Kentucky Humane Society accepts stray cats and dogs from the public by appointment. Following Louisville Metro ordinance, KHS keeps stray pets for five days to allow owners time to reclaim their pets. After five days, stray pets are evaluated for health and behavior and can be made available for adoption.

Do we have your pet as a stray? Contact the KHS Admission Department at 502-366-3355 ext. 2201. If you do not see your pet, please also check with Louisville Metro Animal Services, our city's public shelter. We encourage owners of lost pets visit both shelters frequently in addition to checking the KHS and LMAS websites.
