Residents of Kentucky and Southern Indiana are well aware of the threats associated with natural disasters, such as tornadoes, floods and wildfires. At the Kentucky Humane Society, we have seen first-hand the effects that tornadoes can have on companion animals. In 2012, KHS took in over 50 pets displaced from the West Liberty, KY, tornados.
In light of National Animal Disaster Preparedness Day on May 13, we at the Kentucky Humane Society, in partnership with Hill’s Pet Nutrition’s Food Shelter & Love® program, wants to make sure that families think to include their pets and are well-versed in the easy steps that can help keep pets safe in an emergency.
