The special is valid at all 10 KHS adoption centers, including its East Campus at 1000 Lyndon Lane and nine adoption centers in Feeders Supply stores. Adopters in Jefferson County pay $10.50 for animal licensing fees, and donations are encouraged.
Shelter Director Robin Vincent says KHS is receiving calls for help from many overcrowded Kentucky shelters this summer. As space allows, KHS takes in needy shelter animals from over 35 Kentucky counties when municipal shelters are full.
All animals at KHS are spayed or neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on vaccinations and flea prevention. The adoption special runs June 2-30, 2017: dogs 40 pounds or more have $40 adoption fees. Legacy Pets (typically purebreds or “designer breeds”) are excluded from this special, as their higher adoption fees help offset the cost of care for other pets. Adoption is pending approval of an application process that takes about an hour.
