Gary joined our volunteer team in March 2017 eager to give back to shelter animals. After attending orientation and training, Gary’s impact at the East Campus Adoption Center was immediate.
He began socializing and exercising the animals available for adoption, providing them with necessary outdoor time, care and love while they awaited their forever homes. Additionally, Gary takes each dog out for an extended walk to Robison Park in the Lyndon area, where they can enjoy time out of their cages. His love for volunteering was so impactful that Gary’s wife, Jeannine, began training to volunteer alongside him. “I have always loved animals and have never known one that I didn't value and appreciate,” says Gary.
In addition to his time at the East Campus, Gary volunteers at all of KHS’ signature fundraising events. “Each of the events I've attended, and all of the folks that I've met have, without exception, made volunteering so much fun and rewarding,” reflects Gary.
Since becoming a volunteer, Gary has donated 800+ hours to the Kentucky Humane Society, helping the staff 3-5 days a week and has walked countless dogs available for adoption.
“It’s almost weird when Gary is not at the shelter because of how much he does for us,” says Shannon Miller, an Adoptions Counselor at the East Campus.
Please join us by congratulating Gary Blazin as the 2018 Volunteer of the Year!
