New Year's Resolutions for You and Your Pet

31 December 2014

With the start of a new year come many resolutions. We here at the Kentucky Humane Society would like to offer some suggested resolutions for you and your pet that we hope are easy to keep.

This year, resolve to…

Get your pet spayed or neutered. If you’ve adopted from us, we’ve already taken care of that resolution. For those with unaltered pets, there are so many benefits to you and your pet when you get them spayed or neutered. From preventing unexpected litters to fewer difficult behaviors, it’s a win-win for everyone.

Take your dog out more often. Walks and time at dog parks help stimulate a dog’s mind and body and can relieve boredom and frustration. Many destructive behaviors result from boredom, and these trips outside the home can help alleviate those issues.

Help your dog/cat loose those extra pounds. A healthy weight is just as important to you pet as it is to you. Your veterinarian can help you decide if your pet is at a healthy weight and offer suggestions for helping your pet lose weight safely.

Make your dog /cat healthier! Regular veterinary visits and up-to-date vaccinations can keep your pet from serious health issues down the road. Do yourself and your pet a favor and plan regular checkups.

If you have a question about pet behavior or care, contact our free Pet Help Line, 502-509-4PET. We can help you with many issues surrounding pet care.

Happy New Year!
