From Trash to Treasure

Maxie, a three-month-old Chihuahua/greyhound mix, was dumped on the side of Dixie Highway like so much trash. Abandoned, the poor girl could have easily run into the street and been another dead dog by the side of the road.

Fortunately for Maxie, fate was smiling, and a woman who saw the pup being abandoned stopped her car and coaxed the puppy into her own vehicle. Unable to keep Maxie herself, this Good Samaritan sought the aid of the Kentucky Humane Society to care for the puppy and find her a forever home.

At the Kentucky Humane Society, we save every adoptable animal and ensure that these dogs and cats have the care and love they need to thrive. Pets like Maxie are so much more than objects to be discarded on a whim. They are living, breathing, loving beings who need us to love and care for them. We don’t understand people who discard animals like garbage by the side of the road, but we are grateful that Maxie had a guardian angel that day and came to stay with us. Here at the Kentucky Humane Society, Maxie will have an opportunity to find a home—this time a forever home.

With your help, we are able to touch many pets’ lives every year. We are able to bring comfort to the sick and wounded. We are able to bring love to the lonely. And we are able to feed, house, care for and find loving homes for each adoptable pet who comes through our doors. Pets like Maxie are so much more than objects to be discarded on a whim. And thanks to donations, we’ll save Maxie, and the thousands of other pets who have nowhere else to go.
