Find a dog that completes your family. Feb. 20-27, select dogs are available for half their regular adoption fee. While we reduce the adoption fee, we do not reduce the time we take to get to know you. The adoption application and interview generally take one hour.
The Healthy Pets Clniic will have limited services on Wednesday, January 30. We will be available for most preventives. We plan to have full services available on Thursday.
Tuesday through Saturday, January 22-26, adoption fees for dogs 25 pounds or more are reduced to $25.
On her volunteer days at the Kentucky Humane Society (KHS), Betty spends her time walking and socializing both dogs and cats at our Sam Swope Pet TLC. “Being at the shelter is my favorite ‘me’ time of the week,” Betty says. “The dogs and cats have so much love to give and I get to be the lucky recipient for a few hours.”

Each December, Betty volunteers as a Co-Chair for Picture Your Pets with Santa, one of KHS’s signature fundraising events. She enjoys working with a wonderful and hardworking crew of volunteers each holiday season. Throughout the year, Betty also participates in additional special events that support the shelter animals.
Her love for animals expands outside of KHS as Betty volunteers with Alley Cats Advocates one Saturday a month. She also brings her own pets to visit residents every Tuesday at Signature East nursing home.
When not volunteering, Betty shares her home with 3 KHS “foster failures” and alumni from the shelter. Walking her dogs is her favorite way to relax and also get some exercise.
“I encourage people to volunteer as you will receive more than you give” says Betty. “The KHS staff and volunteers have hearts like mine towards the animals that share our world. I love being in the company of these compassionate people.”
Tuco is a senior Patterdale Terrier mix who came to the Kentucky Humane Society in February 2017 from an overcrowded shelter. He was in rough shape: his right front leg was curved from a previous break that went untreated and his tail had been broken. On top of this, Tuco was also blind.
The 2019 Pet Calendars are in, and they are beautiful. For all who submitted photos, thanks for making this the best calendar yet!
