Introducing our very special boy, Phoenix. This 35 pound, one-year-old, Shepherd mix came to the Kentucky Humane Society from an overcrowded shelter in a flood-affected area of southeastern Kentucky. After spending some time with Phoenix, staff noted behaviors like spinning and tail chasing. We also noticed an odd indent in his skull. Turns out poor Phoenix probably suffered trauma that caused him to be blind in one eye and possibly have defects with his other eye. He essentially has "blind spots" that cause him to become uncomfortable when he's touched there (even with his own tail). Phoenix's foster family has worked hard to find a solution for him and he's gotten into a good routine. None of these challenges stop Phoenix as he's always ready to go and to learn new things. He's extremely smart and has caught on to life in his foster home. He is crated and trained and though he has been making progress on his potty training while being in his foster home, he still has more progress to make. He loves working for snacks and hasn't found a treat he doesn't like. He is an affectionate guy but can get overwhelmed with a lot of activity. The ideal home for Phoenix would be quiet, with a patient family that can help him acclimate to his new life. Other dogs can be a little to much commotion for him and can cause some stress, so Phoenix would like to go to a home where he can be the only child. This boy is sweet, fun, and still learning about life. He will make a great companion for the right home. Phoenix is approved to go home with children 15 and up. He is neutered, micro-chipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations.

Shelter Transfer:
I came to the Kentucky Humane Society from another shelter. The staff are still learning all about me. I miss being in a home and have a lot of love to give.
