|Ares (Mod Squad $100 Adoption Fee)|
Introducing Ares! This gorgeous boy is a two-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix that was surrendered to the Kentucky Humane Society when his owner could no longer care for him. He was very scared upon arrival but since then we have seen him bloom into a fun-loving, sweet and silly guy. Ares most favorite thing is playing with his toys. He will run and zoom around with them, then lay on them and roll around, and then zoom around some more, and then lay down and snuggle with them. He also loves affection from his trusted people! Butt scratches are the best and he will do a full body lean into you when you are petting him. Ares can take some time to warm up to new people and may be wary of strangers or unfamiliar noises. Apartment living could be hard for him so we are hoping to place him in a quiet home where he can avoid some of the scary stressors. Through the Behavior Modification program he has been able to work through some of his fears, and the KHS behavior team is happy to help his adopters understand how to address those challenges in a home. Ares has done well with other dogs and regularly attends playgroups with his doggy friends. Because he does have a tendency to guard his things from other dogs, we are placing him in a home as the only pup. He has not had experience with cats so he would do best in a cat-free home. Because he can sometimes be exuberant, Ares needs a home with children ages 5 and up. Ares is neutered, micro-chipped and up-to-date on vaccinations. Could he be the one for you?
This animal is a student in our Behavior Modification program. As part of our program, some of our canine friends have the opportunity to learn a few more skills before they are placed in homes. This also allows our staff to learn more about each animal's individual personality and needs. The goal of the Behavior Modification program is for these dogs to be adopted into appropriate homes with behavior counseling and support. An appointment is necessary to meet and adopt this animal. If you are interested in meeting them, please first submit an online adoption application located at www.kyhumane.org/dog-app. Once we have received your adoption application, our behavior team will follow up and provide you with more information. You can also email [email protected] for more info.
Dog of the Day:
In October, Neil Huffman Subaru and Subaru of America are donating $100 toward the adoption fees of select dogs at the Kentucky Humane Society in honor of Subaru's "loves pets" month. One dog a day will be chosen to be added to this special. Because of this, Ares' adoption fee is $100 in October. Adopters in Jefferson County are responsible for $10.50 licensing, and donations are gratefully accepted!
