Thicket is a standard donkey who was found along with our mule Bramble near a busy highway running loose. He has a large lump on his side and both were intact upon arrival. He is warming up to KHS staff and has had all of his Coggins, dental, castration, and vaccinations. His lump was examined by the local vet hospital and determined to be a hernia of the body wall in an area that won't likely hold a mesh repair so we were told its best to leave the area alone instead of risking of complication or infection, it was likely due to some sort of blunt force trauma like a kick or possibly being struck by a vehicle. They said he seems pretty well adapted so he is not a surgical candidate for that. Thicket is currently kept in a stall and let out in our arena or goes on walks during the day. He is slowly learning to trust staff members and be less flighty/reserved. Thicket could use a soft place to land with a caring and patient adopter. Donkeys are so intelligent and such deep thinkers, we just know somebody would love to have this fella in their life and win his affection. He talks to us every morning and afternoon. Visitors love hearing his bray, and though we will be sad to not hear him around anymore I'm sure he would love the individual attention afforded by a home of his own. Thicket still needs work learning to trust and to prepare for the farrier.
