Handsome and friendly! Firecracker is a 25 year old 15.2 hand tall Quarter Horse / Tennessee Walking Horse cross who was a voluntary owner surrender to KHS. He was surrendered with his dam, Josie and his sister, Nikki because their owner was losing the farm where they'd lived together their entire lives. Their owner loved them very much but couldn't keep them so surrendered them in hopes they could find good homes. Firecracker was started under saddle briefly and intended for trail riding as a younger horse, but had not been ridden since. During his training evaluation he was very polite to saddle, mount, stand, and dismount. He was not certain that moving around for a rider was really necessary, so required some prompting and clear directions to go and to turn, with some tail swishing and mild protest but once he understood the way he settled nicely under saddle and tried to do everything that was asked of him. His hooves had not been trimmed in some years, but had worn very well all things considered and just needed to be brought back to better balance by our farrier. He moves slowly and cautiously on his feet perhaps because is out of practice and a bit overweight so he just may need some patience to adjust to his newly rebalanced hooves and some exercise. Our farrier does not believe that he has suffered from laminitis and he has a good healthy sole but he does not move with much suspension. Firecracker does move in a bit of a slow rack gait when asked to move out more than a walk under saddle, but we can't rule out a trot if he speeds up. He is being offered now as a companion horse, with great potential to go back under saddle as a trail horse if he were to receive a solid restart/tuneup. We will update his profile if/as his training continues but wanted to go ahead and offer him for adoption in case someone was looking for a well-loved, friendly horse to build a relationship with through continued training. He has spent most of his life as a beloved pet, so he's very comfortable around people but does not have any fine tuning or advanced training. He would very likely be happy to pack some kiddos around a backyard for pony rides on a leadline. He is recently up to date on farrier, deworming, dental, and vaccinations. Easy to catch, had only been loaded on a trailer once in his life prior to surrender and figured it out quite easily on a large step-up trailer, stands tied, and has been pastured with mares without issue. He is a big-bodied, handsome guy with a soft heart. If interested in adopting Firecracker please reach out to us for an adoption application or send any questions you may have.
