Senior Dogs Fetch Grey Muzzle Org. Grant
Louisville KY – Old dogs have something to wag about this summer, as The Grey Muzzle Organization announces the recipients of its annual grants, and dogs at the Kentucky Humane Society (KHS) are among the winners.
KHS is one of 66 animal welfare groups in 30 states who were chosen from more than 300 applicants to receive a grant to help local senior dogs.
“This grant will help us keep senior dogs in their homes and out of shelters by providing support to struggling pet owners,” said Shelby Schulz, who manages the KHS Pet Help Line, 502-509-4738. “Our goal is to help keep senior dogs in their homes where they are happiest whenever possible. And for dogs who have no other option than the shelter, we work hard to find each a loving home where they can live out the remainder of their days in comfort.”
A portion of the funding will also support KHS’ new Fospice Care program, which finds foster homes for senior shelter pets with terminal illnesses and limited life expectancies.
Over the past decade, the national nonprofit Grey Muzzle Organization has provided nearly $1.5 million in grants to support its vision of “a world where no old dog dies alone and afraid.”
“Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we’re delighted to help deserving organizations like the Kentucky Humane Society make a difference in the lives of dogs and people in their communities,” Grey Muzzle’s Executive Director Lisa Lunghofer said. “Many senior dogs in the Louisville area are enjoying their golden years in loving homes thanks to the wonderful work of KHS.”
The Kentucky Humane Society is the state’s largest pet adoption agency and spay/neuter provider. Each year over 6,000 grateful shelter animals find new homes through KHS, and tens of thousands of families are assisted through KHS’ pet retention programs, which includes a free Pet Help Line, low-cost veterinary services and dog training classes.
