Exciting News! New Adoption Center and Renovations to Main Campus

On Dec. 9, the Kentucky Humane Society celebrated the opening of our latest pet adoption center and announced changes to the Main Campus.

The new adoption center is located in Shively at the North Dixie Feeders Supply, next to the Kroger Marketplace at 4921 Dixie Highway in Louisville. Directions

This is the ninth KHS adoption center in a Feeders Supply store and the second new adoption center KHS opened with Feeders Supply this year. We are grateful for our 20-year partnership with Feeders Supply, which has resulted in over 40,000 pet adoptions since 1996! That's a lot of lifesaving!

Now with 10 vibrant, permanent adoption centers (including the East Campus at 1000 Lyndon Lane) to help find homes for over 6,000 dogs and cats a year, KHS will repurpose our Main Campus at 241 Steedly Drive to help more animals in our community.

Larger Admissions area, and coming soon, our Healthy Pets Clinic!

KHS is now renovating and expanding the Admissions areas so that incoming animals can become ready for adoption at the 10 busy adoption centers.

In addition, the current adoptions lobby at Main Campus is being repurposed to expand our Healthy Pets Program to a 5-day-a-week Healthy Pets Clinic. The Healthy Pets Clinic will offer low-cost vaccines and basic preventatives as well as treatment of minor medical needs for local pets. The goal is to help keep pets healthy and out of shelters. KHS anticipates renovations will be completed spring 2017.

Thanks to our partnership with Feeders Supply, KHS has one of the most robust adoption programs in the country. And increasingly, KHS is focused on helping pets stay in their homes so they aren't surrendered to shelters in the first place. The changes to our main facility will help us better support shelter pets, plus provide needed services to local pet owners and their animals.
