We are at capacity! You can help by adopting. Bissell Pet Foundation is paying for adoption fees for dogs and cats from disaster-impacted areas through Sept. 23, 2017.

This means animals from Harvey and Irma areas have NO adoption fees; adopters pay $10.50 for licensing.

All pet adoptions occur at our East Campus, 1000 Lyndon Lane, and 9 Feeders Supply stores. They do not occur at our Steedly Drive location, which is our intake facility and houses our Healthy Pets Clinic. Click on the animal profiles on the "adoptable dogs" or "adoptable cats" pages to see where each animal is located.

According to Mandy Joslyn of Bissell Pet Foundation, “The need to find loving homes for pets is urgent and so we will be offering to cover the adoption fees for any pet transferred from disaster areas from TODAY through September 23.”

The Kentucky Humane Society is at capacity. We have almost 500 animals in care, including over 80 from storm-affected communities, and we have been asked to take in more animals from overcrowded shelters affected by Harvey and Irma over the next week. These are in addition to the animals we are already helping in Kentucky. You can help by adopting!

BPF LogoPlease note: it takes time to prepare each animal for adoption: they need a medical checkup and spay or neuter surgery, and some need additional care. Hurricane pets will appear on the adoptable dogs or adoptable cats pages as soon as they are ready for adoption. Click on their profiles to see which of our 10 adoption sites they will be located at. We ask that you be patient as we provide care for hundreds of animals and get them ready for their forever homes.

Temporary Foster Homes Needed

In addition to adopters, we are in great need for temporary foster homes, particularly for medium- to large-sized dogs. KHS provides food and supplies. Foster commitments are typically 1-2 weeks. Visit www.kyhumane.org/foster-pets to learn more and sign up.

Donations Welcomed

Can’t adopt or foster? Please consider a donation to KHS at www.kyhumane.org/donate. We have received many special needs animals from hurricane-affected areas, and donations are greatly appreciated to help feed/care for the animals and provide medical assistance.
