KHS Provides Foster Care for Pets Whose Families Experience Temporary Hardship

Did you know that the Kentucky Humane Society offers a Safety Net Foster Program? For every pet owner, worrying about what to do with their beloved pets when they are dealing with hard times can be more stressful than the situation itself. KHS wants to help ensure that temporary difficulties do not have to mean an owner has to give up a beloved family pet.

Through our Safety Net Foster Program, KHS offers foster care of owned pets while their owners are temporarily unable to care for them due to illness/injury, housing crisis, or other emergency. This program is offered as a last resort—when all other options for animal care have been exhausted. For those that qualify, KHS will provide foster for the pet(s) up to 90 days so that the owner can reclaim their animal and avoid surrendering them.

If you or someone you know is in need of a temporary foster for your pet(s), click here for more information and to fill out the Safety Net questionnaire.

Spread the word far and wide! KHS also offers helpful resources through our free Pet Help Line for pet owners having difficulty caring for their pet. Whether a pet owner needs financial assistance, help finding pet-friendly apartments, pet food banks, behavioral training, and more, our experts on the Pet Help Line are available and eager to help! If you or anyone you know needs help with continuing to care for their pet, have them call 502-509-4PET (4738) Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. or email [email protected].
