This includes 30 animals from hurricane-impacted areas. By 8:30 pm last night, just 2 dogs and 14 cats remained in KHS' 10 adoption centers, including Buddy, a senior Boxer.
"We are so grateful for our compassionate adopters and for BISSELL Inc., which paid for adoption fees on all pets during this EMPTY THE SHELTER event," said Robin Vincent, Kentucky Humane Society shelter director. "It is thrilling to see so many people come out to adopt their newest family members."
Before the EMPTY THE SHELTERS event on Sept. 23, BISSELL Inc. paid adoption fees for any KHS pets impacted by Hurricanes Irma and Harvey from Sept 13-22. During this time, 98 hurricane-impacted pets were adopted from KHS. Since September 9, KHS had taken in over 250 dogs and cats and 7 horses that were in Texas or Florida shelters before the storms hit. The goal was to help relieve overcrowding and to make room for animals lost or surrendered because of the storms. KHS still has a number of animals from these areas who are undergoing medical treatment before they will be ready for adoption.
While the adoption special has ended, KHS still has wonderful animals who need loving homes. Visit www.kyhumane.org/dogs and www.kyhumane.org/cats to see all our available animals. More pets will be added each day, after they are spayed/neutered and receive their medical exams.
Can't adopt? Consider donating! KHS is still caring for hundreds of animals who are not quite ready for adoption. Your support helps us care for the many pets who come through our doors from Kentucky and other areas.www.kyhumane.org/donate
