Ready for a new “fur-ever friend”? This Saturday the Kentucky Humane Society is waiving adoption fees on all adult cats and charging just $25 for select dogs during the national CLEAR THE SHELTERS adoption event August 18.
The event is part of NBC’s and Telemundo’s fourth annual CLEAR THE SHELTERS animal adoption drive, presented by Hill’s Pet Nutrition and Cat’s Pride. Last year, more than 80,000 pets were adopted from over 900 shelters across the country on that day.
KHS is waiving the adoption fees, but not the adoption process; after their application is approved, adopters can take their newest family member home that day. Jefferson County adopters pay a $10.50 licensing fee, and donations are gratefully accepted.
The KHS East Campus at 1000 Lyndon Lane is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Feeders Supply adoption centers are open 9 a.m.-9 p.m. at Clarksville (Ind.), Dixie (Valley Station), Fern Creek, Hikes Point, Pewee Valley, Preston, North Dixie, Springhurst and St. Matthews. Adoptions will stop about one hour before the centers close. Adopters should bring a leash for dogs and carriers for cats, or purchase at the adoption location.

Cats at the Purrfect Day Café are not part of this special. The Steedly Drive location is no longer an adoption center and does not have pets for adoption.
“We are thrilled to help families find their next furry family member during this national adoption event,” said Robin Vincent, KHS Shelter Operations Director. “Summer is the busiest time of the year for animal shelters, and the faster we find great adopters, the more animals we can help.”
All KHS dogs and cats are spayed or neutered, micro-chipped and up-to-date on vaccinations. All KHS adoptions include a starter bag of Hill’s Science Diet, as well as a coupon book from Feeders Supply.
