121 Pets Adopted at BISSELL ‘Empty the Shelters' Event!

UPDATE 10/6/18: We are thrilled to announce that 121 dogs and cats were adopted on Oct. 6 during BISSELL Pet Foundation’s (BPF) national Empty the Shelters event!

Previous information:

uring Empty the Shelters this Saturday, the KHS East Campus, 1000 Lyndon Lane, will be open 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and KHS adoption centers at Feeders Supply stores are open 9 a.m.-9 p.m. (Clarksville, Dixie, North Dixie, Fern Creek, Hikes Point, Preston, Springhurst, St. Matthews, Pewee Valley). Adoptions will stop approximately one hour before the centers close.

Over 100 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens at KHS are patiently waiting for a second chance. Because of BPF, KHS is waiving adoption fees but not the adoption process. Families will fill out an application and meet with an adoption counselor to ensure every pet finds the right home. Adopters are asked to bring or purchase a collar and leash for dogs and a crate for cats. Jefferson County residents pay $10.50 for pet licensing, and donations are gratefully accepted.

“We are thrilled to partner with BISSELL Pet Foundation to waive adoption fees on October 6,” said Robin Vincent, KHS Shelter Operations Director. “This is an extremely busy time of the year for us, as many overcrowded Kentucky shelters are asking for KHS’ help by taking in adoptable pets. The faster we find great adopters, the more animals we can help.”

Cats at the Purrfect Day Café are not part of this special. The Steedly Drive location is no longer an adoption center and does not have pets for adoption.

During Empty the Shelters, BISSELL Pet Foundation is paying all pet adoption fees at 100+ shelters and rescue organizations in 14 states. The last national-scale BISSELL Empty the Shelters event saved 3,135 pet lives in less than 24 hours and 13,624 pet lives since the program’s inception in 2016.
