That means loving families and forever homes for twice as many animals … like Whiskey.
The young shepherd mix was found on Kentucky back roads on one of the coldest days of the year. An out-of-town couple visiting the Bourbon Trail stopped to see if he needed help.
He was curled up on a bag of trash, trying to keep warm from sunlight reflecting off the black bag. He was skin and bones. It seemed he’d been living off garbage scraps for some time.
Despite his suffering, the sweet dog responded right away to the people who came to rescue him. Desperate for contact, he climbed right into their laps.
It was as if he was begging them not to leave him in that sad, lonely place.
As the dog — now named Whiskey — warmed up on a blanket in their back seat, the couple tried to find a safe place to bring him. They were grateful to find the Kentucky Humane Society was open on that cold holiday weekend.
And that’s how Whiskey made his way to us. He had no collar, tags, or microchip, and he wasn’t neutered. Whether abandoned or a longtime stray, this little guy had been without basic comforts for a long time.
But thanks to the good Samaritans on the Bourbon Trail, Whiskey’s luck had finally changed.
Our veterinarian, Dr. Emily, prescribed puppy food to help him gain weight and get much-needed nutrients. He quickly responded to treatment — and just nine days after arriving here, Whiskey went home with a family of four who adores him.
From trash … to treasure. Whiskey’s story is one of hope and good fortune.
But there are so many animals just like him still waiting for their happy endings. They want to be home for the holidays, lovingly treated like members of the family — just like Whiskey.
At the Kentucky Humane Society, our goal is that every animal finds an amazing family in time for the holidays. But that’s possible only with your support.
Please take this opportunity to DOUBLE the impact of your gift to the Kentucky Humane Society. When you send the most generous gift you can before December 31, 2018, you’ll save twice as many animals like Whiskey.
Thank you for your devoted friendship to animals in need. Your generosity this holiday season will make such a difference in their lives.
With gratitude and best wishes for a happy, healthy holiday season,
Lori Kane Redmon
President and CEO
