Laura currently works as a full-time real estate agent with Semonin Realtors. However, each Monday morning Laura can be found volunteering with the horses rescued through our Equine C.A.R.E. program. She feeds, grooms and cleans stalls, which keeps her connected to the horses. “The work is physical, which is part of the appeal for me. I had forgotten how meditative cleaning stalls can be!” she says.
Laura enjoys seeing the array of animals at the barn, From horses to foals, ponies to mini-horses, she is always amazed watching these animals find their forever homes. Her favorite memory was watching two completely emaciated horses, so severely starved that their ribs were visible, turn into happy and healthy horses. The transformation speaks volumes to the work the Equine C.A.R.E. program is doing.
“Don’t hesitate to contact KHS and get involved. Whether it be dogs, cats or horses, there is always an animal that could use a kind and caring human’s loving attention,” she says to interested volunteers. “For me, it is very therapeutic to step away from the demanding world of real estate and spend time outdoors with the horses. They are very entertaining and do a wonderful job putting life into perspective.”
When not working or volunteering, Laura can be found spending time with her husband, Jim, her mother and sister, and her beloved Scottie dog, Maxine. “Of course a lot of time is spent working with clients who are either buying or selling property,” she laughs.
Laura enjoys reading, working out and traveling. “It’s by design, a pretty simple life, and spending time with horses once again has really added to it.”
