Kentucky Humane Society offers socialization classes for puppies adopted during the pandemic

The Kentucky Humane Society is now offering Puppy and “Teenage” Socials for puppies age 8 weeks to 6 months. The first classes start Saturday, October 3, 2020, at the KHS Sam Swope Pet Retreat in Jeffersontown.

So many puppies have found their forever home during the pandemic – but just like us, they’ve had limited opportunities to socialize. Proper socialization is immensely important to helping ensure your puppy will grow into a happy, well-adjusted and confident dog – which helps reduce future problems such as fear, anxiety and anti-social behavior.

Dear Friend of the Animals,

The animals at the Kentucky Humane Society desperately need your help.

Hundreds of dogs, cats and horses are in need of lifesaving care, loving attention and forever homes.

And during the coronavirus pandemic, it’s become even more challenging to help these animals. Our resources are stretched to the limit.

With local pet owners staying #HealthyatHome, Kentuckiana’s dogs are loving the extra walks, attention and time they get to spend with their families. But as the region prepares to slowly open up businesses, all this extra time with our pets may coming to an end for many families.

That’s why the Kentucky Humane Society is recommending that families start preparing their dogs for changes to their schedules. Some dogs may react by showing signs of loneliness and even separation anxiety when their owners leave the house.

Donations are being matched through Thursday, April 23, so your gift will have TWICE the impact. The Joanne W. Gauntt Charitable Foundation is matching donations to the Kentucky Humane Society, up to a total of $35,000, to help us address the COVID-19 crisis.
