Outlaw is a 6 year old, 14.1 hh, gaited, sorrel tobiano spotted walking horse gelding. Outlaw was seized with six other horses in a neglect case in Scott County, Kentucky. Under the care of Scott County Animal Care and Control, Outlaw was successfully treated, refed, and brought back to health, but Outlaw and the horses in his group were mostly unhandled for a year while their case was under investigation.
Outlaw has a solid start under saddle and has demonstrated a walking gait as well at trot and canter. Outlaw is still fairly green and is not confirmed in his canter departs; he will need to work with an experienced rider or trainer to establish confirmed canter and to strengthen his walking gait under saddle. While Outlaw is well started under saddle, he will need an intermediate to advanced rider to help him gain more confidence. Outlaw has been ridden in a large roundpen and in our outdoor arena and has worked over obstacles on the ground. He is generally a push ride and has been ridden with a small spur. His preference so far has been slow-paced rides and we feel he would enjoy a trail riding career. He has been interested but generally calm in new environments. He stands tied, bathes, knows basic ground work including working in the round pen, yields his shoulders and haunches, backs, and loads/unloads calmly on the trailer. Outlaw is dominant in a herd dynamic and can become possessive of mares; Outlaw was gelded when he was seized and he has undergone a hormone panel and all tests were normal. This gorgeous guy has been a pleasure to care for and is a fan favorite of staff and volunteers alike. Outlaw was not very confident coming to the Kentucky Humane Society but has truly flourished in his time at the farm and he responds extremely well to regular handling and a reliable schedule. At the farm, Outlaw's personality has shown him to be very intelligent, easy to teach, and curious. While he is still young and somewhat green, with the right rider and/or trainer, this guy would make a fabulous show horse or very happy trail horse. |
