How to Adopt

Adopters Welcome!

The Kentucky Humane Society is welcoming adopters! Take the first step towards bringing home a new furry friend from KHS by completing an adoption interest form at kyhumane.org/adoption-interest-form. After you complete this online form, you’ll be ready to come meet our adoptable dogs and cats. Walk-ins are always welcome at our Sam Swope Pet TLC (241 Steedly Drive) and East Campus (1000 Lyndon  Lane). If you don’t meet the perfect pet for you during your first visit, please come back; we welcome new animals to KHS daily! 

**Please note: The adoption interest form DOES NOT apply to Purrfect Day Cat Cafe or Equine adoptions. Completing this form DOES NOT put a specific animal on hold or guarantee adoption. Forms are valid for 6 months and apply to one animal adoption.

Visit our adoption centers to meet your next furry family member:

Sam Swope Pet Treatment & Lifesaving Center (Main Campus), 241 Steedly Drive, Louisville, KY 40214. Visit adoptable dogs and cats Monday-Friday from 11 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. and 11 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on weekends. Adoption applications are processed until 30 minutes before closing. No appointment necessary.

East Campus, 1000 Lyndon Lane, Louisville, KY 40222. Visit adoptable dogs and cats 11 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. weekends. Adoption applications are processed until 30 minutes before closing. No appointment necessary.

Purrfect Day Café (PDC), 1741 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40205. PDC offers cat adoptions in a cafe setting. Reservations are strongly recommended. Visit their website to schedule your visit and learn more.

Willow Hope Farm, 4416 Todds Point Road, Simpsonville, KY 40067. Home to KHS’ horse rescue and adoption facility. Willow Hope Farm is open by appointment only and unable to accommodate walk-ins. Please contact [email protected] for more information.

When adopting an animal from the Kentucky Humane Society you can expect to pay:

Adoption Fee (Price Varies by Animal)
$10.50 Jefferson County License Fee (required if you are a resident of Jefferson County for proof of rabies vaccination)
$10.00 for sturdy leash & collar (canines 5+ months)
$5.00 for cat carrier

We Can Hold an Animal for You!

Unless there is an adoption special involving the pet, a hold may be placed on a cat or dog with a $25 hold fee, paid by credit card, cash or check. The hold is valid until the close of the following business day. This $25 hold fee is in addition to the pet’s adoption fee and is nonrefundable, even if the adopter decides not to adopt. Holds may only be placed in person while the adoption locations are open.
