Bambi Update 4/24/2026

Bambi is still in a foster home continuing her recovery, but her weight has plateaued, despite trying different kinds of digestive food. Great news is that she’s still happy as can be! In an attempt to rule out any underlying conditions, we performed an ultrasound on Bambi. Thankfully, the results showed no signs of cancer that could cause this condition.
However, we want to make sure we’ve checked every box. We are doing further testing to hopefully have a better understanding of Bambi’s condition so we can help her gain the weight she desperately needs. For now, Bambi is getting lots of snuggles and care as she continues to eat what she can and show off her kind, gentle personality.

Bambi Update 4/16/2026

Our girl Bambi hit a small speedbump earlier this week and has only gained one pound since you last saw her. She’s been experiencing diarrhea – likely due to the fact that she’s been eating lots of high-calorie food in an attempt to pack on weight. We’ve learned her body responds best to a prescription digestive diet and have fully transitioned her to food that doesn’t hurt her stomach.

Tummy troubles aside, Bambi is blossoming. She became fast friends with her canine foster sibling and gets to enjoy daily play sessions now. She’s also become quite the fan of car rides! Best of all, Bambi has only gotten sweeter and more snuggly since we first met her. She backs up to humans to request scratches and nuzzles into our necks when her cuddle her. It’s heartwarming to know that Bambi feels safe enough to be her true self!

Bambi Update 4/8/2026

Bambi, the emaciated senior pup we welcomed last week, is still on the road to recovery. She spent the weekend in a loving foster home with a staff member and has already gained 4 pounds in just under a week, thanks to careful feeding and constant observation! Though her body score remains the same and her healing journey is far from over, we are happy to know that the sweet senior’s treatment is going to plan.

Bambi still needs to gain at least 10 more pounds before she is considered a “healthy” weight. But that’s easier said than done, because prolonged starvation takes a toll on every single part of the body. Bambi’s muscles are nearly nonexistent because her body had to deplete muscle mass over time to compensate for lack of nutrition. Simply walking across the room exhausts her, but her foster mom is dutifully helping her regain her stamina. Over time, she’ll get back to feeling like a “normal” dog again.

We’re going to continue giving Bambi all we’ve got, but we also need your help. Donate in honor of this sweet 10-year-old girl today and your gift will double thanks to a generous donor. That means you can support twice as many scared, vulnerable or abandoned animals like Bambi when they have nowhere else to turn.
