Adopters Welcome! No Appointments Required

The Kentucky Humane Society is no longer requiring appointments for potential adopters looking to adopt companion animals.

Potential adopters can stop by the KHS East Campus at 1000 Lyndon Lane or the Sam Swope Pet Treatment & Lifesaving Center (also called the Main Campus) at 241 Steedly Drive during normal business hours. The East Campus is open for adoptions Monday-Friday 10am-6pm and weekends 10am-5pm. The Main Campus now open seven days a week – Monday-Friday 11am-5pm and weekends 11am-4pm. Adoption counselors are happy to assist families in finding their perfect pet match.

KHS cats are also available for adoption at Purrfect Day Café at 1741 Bardstown Road. Reservations are strongly recommended. Visit their website to schedule your visit and learn more:

Masks are not required but are strongly recommended for visitors who are not vaccinated.

We Can Hold an Animal for You!

Unless there is an adoption special involving the pet, a hold may be placed on a cat or dog with a $25 hold fee, paid by credit card, cash or check. The hold is valid until the close of the following business day. This $25 hold fee is in addition to the pet’s adoption fee and is nonrefundable, even if the adopter decides not to adopt. Holds may only be placed during adoption hours. No holds will be placed within an hour of the posted closing time for the adoption center.
