Cat with Severe Eye Condition Needs Your Help

Update on Mr. Baker the Biscuit Maker

Last week, we introduced you to Mr. Baker the Biscuit Maker – a kitty who’s affectionate personality shines despite an ulcer covering his right eye. Unfortunately, while providing this sweet boy with his medication over the weekend, we noticed he was suffering from diarrhea. Tests revealed that on top of everything else, poor Mr. Baker is battling Giardia.

Giardia is an intestinal infection caused by microscopic parasites, and causes symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss and lethargy. Though Mr. Baker’s case is considered more mild than some, he’s clearly under the weather and will need supportive care as he fights off this infection. We’re providing him with medication that combats Giardia, and will continue to treat his eye ulcer while monitoring his hydration and energy levels.

We’re prepared to pivot Mr. Baker’s treatment plan if his progress begins to plateau but for now, he’s safe and surrounded by people who love him. Please donate in his honor as his healing continues. Your support helps us provide the most vulnerable animals in our community with the tender loving care they deserve.

Meet Mr. Baker the Biscuit Maker

A three-year-old cat recently arrived at our Sam Swope Pet Treatment and Lifesaving Center with a severe ulcer on his right eye. The ulcer nearly covers his entire eye, impeding his vision and causing him untold amounts of pain. Despite it all, he rolls over for belly rubs and nuzzles every face he can get to, so we lovingly named him Mr. Baker the Biscuit Maker and promised we’d help him feel better.

Our goal is to avoid eye removal surgery by treating Mr. Baker’s ulcer with topical medication and eye drops. These medications act to soothe the irritation around his eye while simultaneously working to reduce the swelling caused by this ulcer. We’ll be closely monitoring his progress to ensure he’s on the right track, and will pivot his treatment plan if we don’t start seeing improvements over the next few days.

For now, Mr. Baker is comfortable and safe as our staff showers him with affection. We’ll update you as he continues to heal but in the meantime, please donate in his honor so that we can continue to provide our community’s most vulnerable animals with the tender loving care they need to thrive.
