Give Hope to Puppy Thrown from Moving Vehicle

Pretzel Update 11/11/2025

Last week, we introduced you to Pretzel, a one-month-old puppy who was brought to the Kentucky Humane Society after being thrown out of a car into oncoming traffic. Avoiding physical injury, this poor pup was scared and malnourished. Our veterinary team provided Pretzel with fluids, nutrition and a warm place to rest, before sending him to a loving foster home.

Since going to foster, Pretzel has started to blossom. He has been able to decompress in a home outside of the shelter and is warming up to his foster with lots of snuggles and treats. Pretzel even has some other pups around to teach him how to play, and he is gaining confidence every day. His foster paw-rent reports that Pretzel is still timid, but once he realizes he is safe, he turns into a total cuddlebug who loves being with his people.

We will continue to update on Pretzel’s progress, but for now, please Give Hope to animals like him by donating today. Thanks to longtime supporter Janice Cooper, all gifts made through 11/30 will double to support twice as much lifesaving work for animals in our community. Thank you for your support!

Meet Pretzel, a one-month-old puppy who was recently rushed to our Sam Swope Pet Treatment and Lifesaving Center by a Good Samaritan who saw him get thrown out of a car into oncoming traffic.

Upon arrival, this poor baby was shaking with fear, unable to process the traumatic event he’d just experienced. As we examined Pretzel, we could easily feel his spine and found his gums to be extremely pale, indicating severe dehydration and malnutrition. We immediately provided him with fluids, nutrition supplements and food so that he could begin to decompress.

Pretzel thankfully evaded physical injury when he was carelessly thrown from that car, but his mental health clearly took a toll.

We are doing everything in our power to make sure Pretzel feels safe, secure and loved. Once he’s decompressed and ready to meet new faces, he’ll enter a loving foster home where he’ll grow bigger and stronger in a peaceful setting.

We will keep you posted on Pretzel’s progress, but in the meantime please Give Hope to animals like him by donating today.
